Security/ Health cares
The criminality in the county Västerbotten is extremely low. In the middle of Lapland the habit of leaving your car unlocked is still widely spread. The towns Umeå, Skellefteå and Lycksele have high standard hospitals. For severe accident that happens in the deep forests or the mountain area there is a well-organised helicopter assistant that will come to your aid.

Cellular phone
The mobile network (GSM 900, 1800 MHz) is very satisfying except for some areas in the mountains. Otherwise most of the area in the county is covered so you can easily phone home.

Language
English is an obligatory subject in Swedish schools and is the second language for most Swedes. Most Swedish citizens born since the late 50`s knows the English language. In fact, many of the foreign tourists are astonished over how well the Swedes speaks English. Due to more and more Italian fishers and hunters the knowledge of this language is spreading among local guides. There is also a couple of Italians that has started companies specialised in fishing tourism. The knowledge of German and French is rare.

Clothes
The summer temperature in Lapland varies but most foreign tourists are surprised that Swedish Lapland can be so hot during June-July. If it rains or blows hard from the north the temperature may drop to 15 degrees centigrade. So be prepared with rainclothes, warm shirts as well as t-shirts and shorts. Also bring well used shoes, You might encounter rough terrain depending on destination.
